when the luxury of summer boredom hung in the air
delightful and invigorating, like the scent of honeysuckle

what treasures did I seek each day? a knowing smile

take me to the river?
or for a refreshing dip in the creek under so many gnarled oaks?
maybe lounging seaside, today? the tide-pools?

but laying by the pool . . .

watching the way the sunshine moves on the surface of that water?

it’s . . .

alluring
consoling
ethereal

I can watch it for hours and drift off and come back

I see decades
of cherished, memories

lapping behind my lids

and I hear them too
taste them
smell them still

bright, glorious light
dappled and adapting
on gentle, ever changing currents -

elegant and casual
my apothecary
full of sinking, sparkling, bobbing tinctures
rolling, elongated
quickly captured
devoutly released

rays of light

excitedly, calm, patient. inviting.
Heavenly.
effortlessly consistent
always
glittering

predictable but phenomenal
beautifully irregular
always
beckoning

a healing, mercurial caress
an entire, all encompassing and instantaneous blessing

all at once - or more leisurely

Helios treading water . . .between and under and all around the jostling, shade cast by silent, swaying branches
or bursts of splendid, white clouds
dipping down, eyes closed, emerging and then blissfully sinking again, caressed by a mirage of inky, incandescent tendrils

thousands of tiny, fleeting bubbles
glinting and gleaming. relaxed, soothed, emerging again

devout & content - I smile, recalling how good it felt
to be enveloped
by the cool, cool depths

of my most magical and cathartic elixir

immersed
suspended in shimmering slate
luxurious, and rapidly shifting blues
slippery, opaque aqua
effervescent velvet

just moments ago
and now it glistens on me
Anointed
we absorb one another, again

quenching my whole, entire
body’s thirst and providing sustenance

perfectly, chilled
ambrosia for my soul
